DUBBERS (in progress)

In this documentary, we follow one of the foremost Kenyan translators and dubbers, DJ Lenny, as a foray into Kenyan film translation culture. As Lenny translates and reenacts Hollywood films live, we discover the quirks and passion behind the art of DJing – a fast and loose translation where one voice plays all the parts in the film and  inserts bouts of comedy into all the movies that are shown. Sitting under the screen behind a wooden panel, Lenny Muthai enters a transe-like state and inserts his humor and passion into the film he translates. Behind the scenes, and away from the big screen, we also discover his daily life, his hopes, and his struggles.
