Over the past year and a half, I've been working for Klutz Press on some filmmaking related kids books. So far I've co-written two books with Klutz founder John Cassidy. The first is called "Tricky Video: The Complete Guide to Making Movie Magic." The book has been out for about a year and it teaches really basic in camera effects. You can order it dircetly from Klutz here or from Amazon here. The second book is called "The Klutz Book of Animation: Make Your Own Stop Motion Movies" and it teaches a wide array of basic stop motion techniques. This one will be out in the next couple of weeks and you'll be able to order it from Amazon here.

FEBRUARY 24, 2008
I've just begun editing my thesis film which will be called NUTKIN'S LAST STAND and deals with England's fight to preserve her beloved red squirrels from an invasion of American gray squirrels. There were a couple of articles about my film in English newspapers. You can see some stills from the footage here. Here is some background for the film from my proposal: The English love their native red squirrels. The red squirrel was immortalized by children's author Beatrix Potter in the character of Squirrel Nutkin and is a ubiquitous figure in English arts, literature and lore. But all is not well for the red squirrel... The American gray squirrel was introduced to England late in the 19th century and since then the larger, bolder American import has been out-competing the native red squirrels for resources an claiming their territory. At present, the red squirrels have been forced into the North and it is estimated that their numbers have dwindled to around 150,000 compared with around 2 million grays. This has triggered outrage among many Britons and a plethora of organizations and individuals have stepped forward to take up the red squirrel's cause. The red squirrel's defenders have done everything from writing songs and books about its plight to killing and eating the grays. They include government organizations, activists, writers, lords and ministers. Their methods vary wildly but all share a common goal: to halt a foreign invasion and to preserve a beloved creature and a national symbol. Stay tuned for updates...

THE LEGEND OF ROSALIE was among four films chosen for a "Critic's Choice" award at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. They sent me along this logo for promotional purposes. The winning film's were selected by Paul Dale, film editor at The List (which is the Time Out equivalent in Scotland.) The other three winning films were SILENT (dir. Amanda Adolfsson, Stockholm's Dramatiska institutet); and TAKING CARE (dir. Jan Wagner, Polish National Film, Television and Theatre School, Lodz) and SWEET (dir. Alex Taner, Metropolitan Film School, London.) ROSALIE is also among six finalists in the documentary category at the Angelus Film Festival. My three classmates' films are also among the finalists. Winners will be announced on September 28th.
